Hello! As a social studies teacher at Tellico Plains Junior High School, I am in a position that allows me to share my love of history. I started my teaching career teaching 1st grade at Etowah City School for a year and have been at Monroe County Schools ever since. I spent seven years at Madisonville Middle School before moving to Tellico Plains Junior High. I have chaired several committees and served as the social studies department head for the past ten years. I was awarded a Tennessee Educator Fellowship with SCORE for the 2017-2018 school year which provided me with the opportunity to develop into an education leader, one prepared to engage legislators locally, at the state level, and nationally. It also gave me the courage and confidence to transfer from MMS to TPJHS in order to serve in the community I call home. I love teaching and believe fully that God has called and equipped me to do just that.
Outside of school, I am deeply involved with The House That Mercy Built, a restoration ministry for women who are in recovery, and True Purpose Ministries, a restoration ministry for men and pregnant women who are in recovery and learning how to effectively live and parent substance free. My husband works with True Purpose Men’s Ministry in Maryville as well. Together, we have launched our own ministry, 5:17 Ministries, this past year. We are very passionate about community service and, partnering with local Celebrate Recovery groups and recovery ministries, building a thriving recovery community in Monroe and McMinn counties.
I am a birth mother to four amazing children and grandmother to three perfect grandbabies. I firmly believe that God has saved me from a life of lack and destruction to assist others to do the same through public education and recovery ministry.
