TPJHS Music

The state of Tennessee follows standards adapted from the National Music Standards. The required skills are based on creating, responding, performing, and connecting to music. We do lots of analyzing, identifying, performing, and composing, to build a foundation of musical skills and an appreciation of music from different cultures and time periods.

Program Philosophy: The purpose of the Tellico Plains school music education program is to develop an understanding and life-long appreciation of music. Students will have an opportunity for performance and personal accomplishment. Students will engage in academic and aesthetic musical experiences through a sequential and developmentally appropriate course of study. Through making music, students will develop skills for the future and learn to appreciate the role of music in society. Students will learn these skills by performing, creating, reading, writing, listening, responding, and thinking critically in a musical environment.
